Food Labs Detect 0% Unsafe Samples in Ahmedabad

The AMC’s public health laboratory report indicates that the “Amdavadis” are contracting the waterborne disease at home. Meanwhile, the public health laboratory of the civic body is boosting most modern food-testing facilities. The AMC’s data on sample testing under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 recorded 0.001% and 0% as the rate of “Unsafe food” samples in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

On the other hand, the AMC recorded 2,111 jaundice cases, 2,803 typhoid and 5,990 cases of vomiting and diarrhea based on the data collected from 150 private and AMC-run hospitals. The disparity in the numbers shed light on another issue only 56 samples were referred to the Ahmedabad collector for fines under “misbehaving” and 37 for “sub-standard” out of 2,369 samples collected. The data also showed that the AMC has only referred three samples to collect over food contamination or the presence of dangerous adulterants, meanwhile, out of 625 samples collected in 2022, none of them were found unsafe.
